Thanks Louise. This is something I think a lot about having very young children and the only cousin in my generation likely to have more kids any time soon. Nobody in my family really shares my worldview except my parents and obviously, they’re too old to reproduce. And I would say really be intentional about it. Find like minded people and plan this out. I can say that I have many mom friends but people you just happen to meet in the suburbs are extremely unstable, and might find pronatalist views (as well as views that “hey, let’s be family friends! Like REALLY tight family friends! Like move towns together tight!”) unsettling.
I ran in a group of 4 mom friends for a long time. And as of 2023, 2 have moved continents and next year the remaining one will move two hours away. And as far as I know none of my other mom friends share our worldview at all; you just can’t count on these people. As far as I understand, all parent friends I’ve met so far are mainly in it for play dates, birthday party attendees, gossip, and passing baby gear back and forth. nobody thinks or even wants these relationships to be lifelong. Nobody has even babysat anybody’s kids. Like legit, not even once.
Thanks for answering my question!
