In the early days of the internet, when it was mostly a text-based medium populated by nerds, there was a joke that "girl" was an acronym meaning "guy in real life".

The internet like any technology is subject to energy and resource constraints. The further into the collapse of industrial civilisation we go (due to declining fossil fuels reserves), the less available the internet becomes.
I'm so conflicted on the issue of "controlled spontaneity". I get that people don't like being psy-opped, but the truth is that outpourings of anger (and in cases where the perpetrator is nonwhite, of racial prejudice) are exactly the reaction that terrorists want. I don't want to give the terrorists what they want, and I hate them more than I hate my own government.
